Klimabonus 2023 Austria – The Annual Payments Are Arriving!

The Klimabonus program continues in 2023 as an annual payment in Austria. The support, which encourages climate-friendly behavior, will be received this year by every adult and child living in Austria, regardless of nationality or age.

The amount of the Klimabonus depends on the primary residence and local infrastructure. In 2023, it is as follows:

  • Category 1: Cities with very good infrastructure and public transportation networks: 110 euros
  • Category 2: Cities with good infrastructure and public transportation networks: 150 euros
  • Category 3: Areas with good basic public transportation networks and infrastructure: 185 euros
  • Category 4: Rural communities or areas with only basic public transportation networks: 220 euros

Children receive half the amount of adults. For people with disabilities, 220 euros are paid in all cases.

The payment of the Klimabonus will begin in the fall of 2023 and continue until mid-2024.

The Klimabonus was introduced by the Austrian government in October 2022 as part of the eco-social tax reform. The purpose of the support is to compensate for the price increase resulting from the climate-damaging CO2 tax and to encourage climate-friendly behavior.

The Amount and Payment of the Klimabonus

The Klimabonus consists of two parts: a base amount and a regional supplement. The base amount is 110 euros for each adult and 55 euros for each child.

The regional supplement varies depending on the place of residence. In rural areas, the supplement is higher due to more limited climate-friendly transportation options.

The Klimabonus is automatically paid to those who have current bank account details registered with the Austrian Ministry of Finance. For those without current bank account information, the Klimabonus is sent by post.

The Impact of the Klimabonus on Climate Protection

The Klimabonus is expected to have a positive impact on climate protection. With the support, people can save more on transportation costs, which may encourage them to use climate-friendly means of transportation.

The Klimabonus may also encourage people to purchase energy-efficient products and services. This can help reduce carbon emissions.

The Future of the Klimabonus

The Klimabonus was first introduced in 2023, and the current plans are to continue it in 2024. In the future, the amount of the Klimabonus is expected to increase, and more people may become eligible for the support.

The Klimabonus is an important step towards climate protection. With this support, the Austrian government encourages people to live in a climate-friendly way and contribute to environmental protection.
